En los últimos 160 años, madres voluntarias y trabajadoras son el activo del Movimiento Internacional de la Cruz Roja y la Media Luna Roja con su diligente compromiso y pasión por servir a la humanidad. Estas voluntarias y trabajadoras son las primeras en entrar y las últimas en salir de las comunidades afectadas por los conflictos armados, otras situaciones de violencia y crisis. Ellas trabajan estrechamente con estas comunidades afectadas para abordar sus necesidades, utilizando su experiencia para responder ante estas últimas, rápida y eficazmente, bajo los principios de humanidad, imparcialidad y neutralidad.
Over the last 160 years, mothers’ volunteers and workers are the asset of the Red Cross and Red Crescent International Movement with their diligent pledge and passion to serve humanity. These volunteers and workers are the first to enter and the last to leave affected communities by armed conflict, other situations of violence and crisis. They work closely with these affected communities to meet their needs, using their expertise to respond to the latter, quickly and effectively, under the principles of humanity, impartiality and neutrality.

Me llamo Fatima Elmasri, viví en Canadá y soy de origen libanés. Soy madre de un niño de 5 años, soy hija y nieta. Me gustan los largos paseos; me gusta descubrir cosas diferentes, pero también me gusta tener una rutina como madre.
Formar parte del Movimiento de la Cruz Roja y de la Media Luna Roja es estar cerca de la gente, es estar cerca de otras familias, es estar cerca de la gente que se ve afectada por situaciones que pueden cambiar la vida como lo son situaciones en conflictos, situaciones de migración... para mí, esta cercanía no es algo que encontremos en la vida cotidiana y es una oportunidad para dar lo mejor de mí y representar a la organización lo mejor que pueda.
Un reto de ser madre, creo que ser madre es imprevisible y tienes que ser adaptable y flexible con mucha paciencia y esto es normal con los niños. Como madre trabajadora, por supuesto, tengo que compaginar esto con mi vida laboral, ahora bien, trabajar en el sector humanitario también es a veces imprevisible y nos movemos mucho, vemos cosas diferentes que tenemos que entender... No diría que es un reto, pero sí que es parecido de alguna manera.

My name is Fatima Elmasri, I lived in Canada and I’m of Lebanese origin. I’m a mother of a 5-year-old child, I’m a daughter and a granddaughter. I enjoy long walks; I enjoy discovering different things but I also enjoy having a routine as a mother.
To be part of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement it’s to be close to people, it’s close to other families, it’s close to people who are affected by situations that can change people’s life like situations in conflicts, situations in migration… for me, this closeness is not something we find in everyday life and it’s an opportunity to do my best, to give my best and represent the organization the best you can.
A challenge of being a mother, I think being a mother it’s unpredictable and you need to be adaptative and flexible with a lot of patience and this is normal with children. As a working mother, of course, I must balance this with my working life, now, working in the humanitarian sector it’s also sometimes unpredictable and we move a lot, we see different things that we need to understand… I wouldn’t say it’s a challenge, but I’ll say it’s similar somehow.
