En los últimos 160 años, madres voluntarias y trabajadoras son el activo del Movimiento Internacional de la Cruz Roja y la Media Luna Roja con su diligente compromiso y pasión por servir a la humanidad. Estas voluntarias y trabajadoras son las primeras en entrar y las últimas en salir de las comunidades afectadas por los conflictos armados, otras situaciones de violencia y crisis. Ellas trabajan estrechamente con estas comunidades afectadas para abordar sus necesidades, utilizando su experiencia para responder ante estas últimas, rápida y eficazmente, bajo los principios de humanidad, imparcialidad y neutralidad.
Over the last 160 years, mothers’ volunteers and workers are the asset of the Red Cross and Red Crescent International Movement with their diligent pledge and passion to serve humanity. These volunteers and workers are the first to enter and the last to leave affected communities by armed conflict, other situations of violence and crisis. They work closely with these affected communities to meet their needs, using their expertise to respond to the latter, quickly and effectively, under the principles of humanity, impartiality and neutrality.

Haylin Alicia Mosquera Mena es la mamá de Esteban, tengo un hijo, soy personal voluntario de la Cruz Roja desde que tengo 15 años, actualmente tengo 38 y voy a cumplir 23 años de formar parte del Movimiento de la Cruz Roja.
Ser parte del Movimiento Internacional de la Cruz Roja es una motivación, la verdad es que me gusta ayudar a las personas en las comunidades, principalmente a quienes más lo necesitan. Trabajo para el grupo de voluntariado, pero también trabajo para la población migrante en el Darién, trabajamos para las comunidades de acogida. Es muy gratificante trabajar y ayudar a quienes más lo necesitan, sobre todo en esas condiciones, las personas que están migrando, que salen de sus países a un futuro que desconocen, así que para mí es muy gratificante, me gusta ser humanitaria, me gusta el trabajo que hago día a día.
Como madre enfrento retos significativos sobre todo siendo madre de un niño en edad escolar, me toca hacer mi trabajo de manera virtual porque muchas veces estoy en terreno, en misión y tengo que enseñarle a mi hijo sus tareas escolares desde la virtualidad porque mi trabajo es en el terreno a favor de las personas vulnerables, entonces, significa un reto, pero un reto que hemos sabido manejar durante este tiempo de vida escolar. Es un reto de día a día porque intento que comprenda que este es mi trabajo, que es una labor humanitaria y que algunas veces debo dejarlo en buen resguardo para ir a ayudar a otras personas, es un reto, pero es uno que hemos sabido manejar significativamente.

Haylin Alicia Mosquera Mena is Esteban's mother, I have a son, I have been a Red Cross volunteer since I was 15 years old, I am currently 38 years old and I am about to celebrate 23 years of being part of the Red Cross Movement.
Being part of the International Red Cross Movement is a motivation, the truth is that I like to help people in the communities, mainly those who need it most. I work for the volunteer group, but I also work for the migrant population in the Darien, we work for the host communities. It is very rewarding to work and help those who need it most, especially in these conditions, the people who are migrating, who leave their countries to a future they do not know, so for me it is very rewarding, I like being a humanitarian, I like the work I do every day.
As a mother I face significant challenges, especially being the mother of a school-age child, I must do my work virtually because many times I am in the field, on mission and I must teach my son his homework virtually because my work is in the field in favor of vulnerable people, so it is a challenge, but a challenge that we have been able to handle during this time of school life. It is a day-to-day challenge because I try to make him understand that this is my job, that it is a humanitarian work and that sometimes I must leave him in safekeeping to go help other people, it is a challenge, but it is one that we have been able to manage significantly.
